Ihattaren: Former Juventus attacker released again in Czechia

Controversial former Juventus attacking midfielder Mohammed Ihattaren is now without a club once again after having his contract terminated by Sparta Praha in the Czech First League.

The 22-year-old has terminated his contract with Sparta by mutual consent as of Easter Sunday.

Ihattaren had joined Sparta in December 2023, penning a one-year contract with the option for a further three. By the end of January, the club had announced that he would train with the reserve side in order to regain his fitness and match sharpness.

However, the former Bianconeri youngster is without a club once again after failing to make an appearance for either Sparta Praha or their reserve side.

It has now been close to two years since Ihattaren last played a competitive game, which came at the end of April 2022 for Jong Ajax in the Dutch Eerste Divisie. He had made a brief cameo for the Ajax first team in the KNVB Cup final loss to PSV earlier that month.

Originally a graduate from PSV’s academy, Ihattaren joined Juventus in the summer of 2021 for a reported fee of around €2m and was immediately sent out on loan to Sampdoria.

While at Sampdoria, the ex-Netherlands youth international often failed to report for training and was not selected for any first team matches.

After a series of personal troubles and a few run-ins with the law, Juventus officially terminated Ihattaren’s contract in July 2023.
