Safety Jeremy Reaves reacts to being released by Washington

His Instagram reaction exemplified his plight in the NFL. Reaves spent the past three years in Washington after going undrafted in 2018 out of South Alabama. He started six games over the course of the past two seasons. He has played well in each opportunity he received.

Last season paired next to Kamren Curl, Reaves looked the part and showed he could be a capable safety in the NFL. He had 25 tackles, one sack and an interception in nine games, three starts.

However, this year safety became a numbers game for Washington. Landon Collins returned fully healthy from last year’s torn Achilles. Washington also added former Miami Dolphin Bobby McCain. That’s on top of Curl, who blossomed as a rookie in 2020, special teams captain Deshazor Everett and this year’s fifth-round pick Darrick Forrest.

Still, Reaves appeared to play well in the preseason. Yet, McCain and Curl have more versatility, being able to play slot corner. Collins is the better option at strong safety and Darrick Forrest is seen as someone who could contribute on special teams.

For Jeremy Reaves the process is no different than his previous three seasons in the league. He didn’t make an initial 53-man roster in any season in the league. Yet, he battled his way onto the practice squad and eventual roster each year. Now his journey is set to continue elsewhere.
