Ryan Leaf goes off on top NFL insider, accuses him of being a fraud

Former No. 2 overall pick Ryan Leaf’s NFL career didn’t pan out, but he’s since carved out a nice niche for himself as a mental health advocate.

Because he’s so passionate about the topic, Leaf isn’t afraid to call out those he feels are being disingenuous when it comes to helping others who struggle with such issues, and the shot he took at NFL insider Jay Glazer is proof of that.

In response to a tweet from Awful Announcing about Glazer and Michael Phelps being mental health buddies — one in which Phelps credits Glazer for being the person he reaches out to when he’s struggling or “feeling down” — Leaf put Glazer on blast, insulting him and questioning his motives.

“Glazer is a fraud when it comes to anything mental health or wellness related,” Leaf tweeted. “He uses it for his benefit and really isn’t invested in any of it unless it benefits him and his brand. Phelps is an inspiration but it gives me pause that he muddies his mind with that con man.”

Leaf’s remarks seem to have come from out of nowhere.

It wasn’t that long ago that the 48-year-old former QB and Glazer were on good terms, and the two even posed for photos together at multiple NFL events.

Glazer is a well-known mental health advocate himself, publishing a book titled “Unbreakable: How I Turned My Depression and Anxiety into Motivation and You Can Too,” and he even rebranded his podcast to “Unbreakable.”

The Fox Sports media personality also created a non-profit charity named MVP (Merging Vets and Players) to help former combat veterans and ex-professional athletes transition into life after their careers are over.
