Former Commanders safety Kam Curl signs two-year deal with LA Rams
Dale Zanine/USA TODAY Sports

Former Washington Commanders safety Kamren Curl is heading to the Los Angeles Rams on a new two-year deal in free agency, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. A staple of the Commanders defense for four seasons, Curl’s rookie contract expired on Wednesday, leaving him open to sign with a new team for the first time in his NFL career. His new deal with the Rams will net him up to $13 million over two seasons.

In 2023, Curl posted a career-high 115 tackles with one sack and 3.5 tackles for loss in 16 games. Over the first four years of his career, he’s tallied 385 tackles, five sacks, three interceptions, a forced fumble and 16 tackles for loss. He also scored a touchdown as a rookie.

During the 2022 preseason, Curl suffered a dislocated thumb, which required surgery. He missed five games but still racked up 83 tackles with a sack and 5.5 tackles for loss.

Curl entered the league in 2020 when the Commanders snagged him in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. He starred at the University of Arkansas for three seasons before declaring for the draft and going No. 216 overall.

Rams add cornerback Darious Williams

Along with Curl at safety, the Rams also signed a new cornerback to the roster this week. They added a familiar face in former Jacksonville Jaguars corner Darious Williams. He inked on a three-year contract on Tuesday.

Williams had 53 tackles with four interceptions last season for the Jaguars. He played for the Rams for three seasons before moving to Jacksonville for two years. Now, he’s headed back where it all began. He was an undrafted free agent in 2019 when he inked with Los Angeles.

The NFL 2024 calendar year begins at 4 p.m. ET on March 13. At that time, contracts running through 2023 officially run out, making those players free agents. Beginning March 11 through March 13 teams can enter into a legal negotiation with players who will become unrestricted free agents.

In addition to NFL free agency, the new year also marks the beginning of all trades being made official by the league office. April 19 marks the deadline to sign restricted free agents to offer sheets. On April 24, the deadline for teams to match restricted free agent offers sheets hits. Following the restricted free agent deadline follows the 2024 NFL Draft, which runs from April 25-27.
